The City of Windhoek (CoW) council has approved plans to enter into an agreement with the National Housing Enterprise (NHE) by availing land at a lower pay rate to assist in accelerating land delivery and housing.

This is contained in a report from the ordinary council meeting held this week, which was issued on Thursday by CoW Manager of Corporate Communications and Marketing, Harold Akwenye.

He said that over the years, NHE has been struggling to acquire land in Windhoek, which to a great extent hampered the execution of its mandate to deliver houses. Therefore, CoW will avail unserviced land to NHE in order to address the housing crisis in the city.

He also announced that the council approved the establishment of a new township on the City-owned farm number R/1012, which will be known as Goreangab Extension 6, whereby residents will be provided with security of land tenure and access to basic services. The farm is about 36 hectares and it will provide an average of 145 plots.

“Council has also approved for the subdivision of Farm R/1012 into portion A and remainder to establish a township to be known as Goreangab Extension 7. The process to establish the township will provide residents already living in the area with the security of land tenure and access to basic services, the township will provide an average of 226 erven,” said Akwenye.

He added that Council further approved an application for the subdivision of farm number R/1030 into portion B and the remainder to establish a township comprising of 197 erven to be known as Havana Extension 11, and the township will serve as a relocation site for people encroaching on the Monte Christo Road reserved to pave way for the conversion of the road into a Bus Rapid Transit as well as conveyance of bulk service connections to the Ongos Valley development.
