The inaugural Express Credit Futsal Premier League was launched here on Wednesday after the completion of the Men’s First Division group stages last Saturday.

The league, which will consist of eight football teams that were promoted from the two First Divisions, will be played during the winter and summer.

Speaking during the launch, Andrei Tirtiran said since the maiden edition of their league in 2019, their dream was to create a premier league and that dream has finally come to fruition.

“This is the first time we are hosting promotions for teams that competed in our First Divisions. Throughout the season we were very strict, those who did not follow the rules were expelled or had points deducted, and at the end of the season we had four teams from two of our different divisions qualifying to the Futsal Namibia Premier League,” he said.

Teams that gained promotion to the inaugural Futsal Premier League are Faical Futsal, Quality Football Club (FC), Windhoek North, Duro Nation, Xmen, SBS Trucks FC, Selecau FC, and Chile FC.

Tirtiran added that with the formation of the elite league, the organisers decided to break up the league into two seasons for the 2022/23 season.

“We are going to launch our winter league in March this year. This league will be played from March until the end of July, while the summer league will start in August and end in November,” Tirtiran explained.

He stated that the reason for splitting the seasons into two is to allow teams to qualify for the different groups that they can compete in.

“Teams will be placed in the different leagues based on their skills level. They will have an opportunity to qualify for the Premier League,” said Tirtiran, who added that the women’s division does not have a lot of teams and therefore they will not create a Premier Division.
