First National Bank of Namibia (FNB) through the FirstRand Namibia Foundation, recently reaffirmed its commitment to CHANGE, a charity organisation involved in uplifting Namibian communities, with an amount of N.dollars 432 600 for the coming year.

CHANGE contributes to economic and social development by re-integrating ex-offenders into society and offers a fashion design, tailoring program, as well as business training, among its many courses.

The bank’s Head of Commercial Mid Touch Segment and Clusters, Tomas Iindji in a media statement on Tuesday applauded CHANGE’s efforts in providing a second chance to ex-offenders and others who want to take on the challenge of creating a new future for themselves and their families.

The training, he said helps people support themselves, which has economic, psychological, and social benefits noting that: ‘New perspectives and new learning uplift people, enable them to make a difference in their own lives, and inspire others to be the change they want to see.’

FNB is proud to be a part of a program that empowers people to be creative, productive, and entrepreneurial, he said.

According to the statement, Director of CHANGE Jean Chiketa Chinyerere said they are grateful for the support they receive from FNB because it allows them to continue providing skills training to their target groups of ex-offenders and disadvantaged members of the communities.

‘With the tailoring project, trainees can now sustain themselves as entrepreneurs, producing and selling clothes and hats – a much-needed skill to combat the unemployment rate, which has also been pushed up by the Covid19 events,’ he said.

FNB made the commitment during the CHANGE graduation ceremony, where seven trainees received diplomas and 16 received certificates in the fields of fashion design, tailoring, and business training.
