Fruitful weekend for Namibian football exports

Namibian football exports had a prolific weekend for their respective clubs this past weekend.

Brave Gladiators striker Zenatha Coleman who recently signed for Turkish Women’s First Football League club Fenerbahçe was on top form this weekend scoring a first-half hattrick as her side crushed Kocaeli Bayan FK 8-0 in the Turkish Women’s League.

This was Coleman’s second game for her new club after chipping in with an assist on her debut on 02 February in their 10-0 away victory over Kireçburnu Spor.

She later tweeted “felt good to get a hattrick today” with a picture of herself and an unidentified teammate shaking hands.

Coleman beat a strong field of contenders including Deon Hotto, Peter Shalulile and Ryan Nyambe who all had great games this weekend.

Fenerbahçe currently sits second on the log behind Besiktas with 21 points from eight matches.

The Brave Warriors’ Nyambe could not prevent his club Blackburn Rovers from losing 1-0 away to Swansea in the English Championship, but he put up a man of the match performance until he was substituted for striker Joe Rankin-Costello in the 68th minute as his club chased the game.

Meanwhile, in South Africa, Shalulile showed his predatory instincts to score Mamelodi Sundowns’ fourth and final goal in their 4-0 drubbing of Richards Bay in the Nedbank Cup round of 32.

The Brave Warriors captain nodded in a delightful cross from right-back Khuliso Mudau.

Not to be outdone by his national team captain, Hotto led Orlando Pirates to a 1-0 victory over AmaZulu in the same competition.

The evergreen winger started and finished a well-worked move that saw Pirates progress to the round of 16 and was rewarded with the man of the match accolade.

Another Namibian Wendell Rudath helped his team Jwaneng Galaxy to a 2-0 victory over Masitaoka in Lobatse, Botswana.

Reports from Botswana suggest the Namibian had a quiet game by his standards.
