Gambling house allegedly robbed at gunpoint at Otjiwarongo

A male security guard and a female bartender were allegedly robbed at gunpoint at Otjiwarongo on Sunday when six armed men entered the gambling house where they are employed.

Namibian Police Force (NamPol) spokesperson in the Otjozondjupa Region, Inspector Maureen Mbeha informed Nampa on Tuesday that the six suspects had allegedly entered the business area at about 20h40 on Sunday night and immediately assaulted the 29-year-old security guard who was on duty armed with a shotgun.

“The guard was disarmed of his shotgun, assaulted and his hands and feet tied with ropes. The shotgun was later found in the toilet at the business premises,” said Mbeha.

The 30-year-old female bartender was also attacked and her hands and feet tied with ropes, she added.

An amount of N.dollars 68 500 from the safe and from the 16 gambling machines was taken by the suspects including the cellphones of both employees, Mbeha further said.

No arrest has been made so far and the stolen items have not yet been recovered.

Police investigations continue.
