President Hage Geingob on Wednesday congratulated the people of South Africa on the celebration of their 28th freedom day.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Office of the Presidency, Geingob congratulated South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa, saying on 27 April 1994, Namibia witnessed an epoch-making moment in which the people of South Africa ushered in a new democracy, crowning South Africa’s hard-fought struggle for liberty.

Geingob said, as South Africans commemorate 28-years of freedom, Namibia reaffirms its commitment to maintaining, solidifying and advancing the excellent relations between the two countries, which date back to the long bitter years of shared struggle against Apartheid.

“The long-lasting friendship, solidarity and common heritage shared between our people and countries continue to grow in all spheres. I have no doubt that we will continue to consolidate and further strengthen our bilateral cooperation for the mutual benefit of our people,” he said.

Geingob equally sent condolences to the families of South Africans who lost loved ones due to the devastating floods that have ravaged the KwaZulu-Natal Province over the past few weeks.
