The project acknowledges the Harambee Prosperity Plan Phase ll call to develop complementary engines of economic growth through the green and blue economy and attract foreign and local investors, as Namibia is gifted with sufficient world class solar and wind resources in the ||Karas Region.

The Head of State conveyed the invitation during the launch of the project and handover of the Harambee Prosperity Plan (HPP) Quarter 1 report ceremony in conjunction with his 80th birthday celebration at State House on Tuesday.

Geingob said Government is determined to incubate the sector as it has potential to create jobs, energy security and unlock significant foreign and local direct investment that will inspire the country’s net export and fiscal positions.

“We have the potential to help chart a course for the globe that our children and their children would be proud of, while ensuring that the immediate future of the parents is one filled with prosperity and dignity, this is why we shall not rest until we have delivered the promise contained within HPP phase two,” Geingob said.

At the same occasion, National Planning Commission Director Obeth Kandjoze said preliminary estimates indicate that Namibia’s annual production of green ammonia is in excess of 2.5 metric tonnes which can generate over N.dollars 11.9 billion (US.dollars 800 million) in six months, while a 1 600 square kilometre piece of land in the Sperrgebeit of the ||Karas Region will be used for a production of synthetic molecules from renewable energy to complement the current electricity supply, noting that Namibia can become an electricity supplier to neighbouring countries.

“Namibia is ranked as one of the best countries in the world to produce green hydrogen and green ammonia which is peddled as one of the key future fuel sources in the world in order to facilitate a carbon neutral future,” Kandjoze noted.

Ammonia gas is used in agriculture as fertiliser, refrigerant gas, purification of water supplies, and in the manufacture of plastics, explosives, textiles, pesticides, dyes and other chemicals.
