Hong kong: China’s Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government on Friday strongly reprimanded and resolutely refuted the untruthful remarks, slanders, and smears against various aspects of the HKSAR in the UK’s so-called six-monthly report on Hong Kong: January to June 2025.
According to Namibia Press Agency, a spokesperson for the HKSAR government stated that the government strongly condemned and rejected the UK’s attempt through a so-called six-monthly report to make misleading and irresponsible remarks about Hong Kong affairs. The spokesperson accused the UK of wantonly placing politics above the rule of law and interfering in Hong Kong’s law-based governance through despicable political maneuvers.
The spokesperson emphasized that the UK has no sovereignty, jurisdiction, or right of supervision over Hong Kong after its return to the motherland. The HKSAR government urged the UK to discern facts from fallacies, respect international law, and basic norms governing international relations, and immediately stop interfering in Hong Kong matters, which are purely China’s internal affairs.
The spokesperson further expressed strong opposition to the report’s contents regarding the laws safeguarding national security in the HKSAR. It was stated that under international law and practice based on the Charter of the United Nations, it is the inherent right of every sovereign state to enact laws that safeguard national security.
The implementation of the national security law in Hong Kong over the past five years has enabled the community’s livelihood and economic activities to resume to normal swiftly, improving the business environment continuously, the spokesperson claimed.
Highlighting the city’s achievements, the spokesperson noted that Hong Kong has been ranked as the world’s freest economy by the Economic Freedom of the World 2025 Annual Report. Additionally, Hong Kong’s ranking improved to third globally in the World Competitiveness Yearbook 2025 and ranks 23rd out of 142 countries and jurisdictions in the World Justice Project Rule of Law Index 2024.
These achievements, the spokesperson noted, are attributed to the freedom and stability brought to Hong Kong society by the national security law, other relevant laws of the HKSAR, and the work of safeguarding national security.
