Impressive performance by Uganda and Zimbabwe at Pent Series

Uganda’s netball team continued with their impressive performance after beating arch-rivals Malawi 59-43 during the second day of the DebMarine Namibia Pent Series here.

The third edition of the Netball Namibia senior International Netball Tournament is currently underway at the Israel Patrick Iyambo Police College in Olympia, Windhoek.

In the opening match of day two of the Pent Series, Malawi, who are ranked sixth in the world, took on Uganda, who are ranked seventh.

In their opening fixtures of the competition on Monday, Uganda thrashed Zambia 76-22, while Malawi humbled 2017 DebMarine Pent Series winners Zimbabwe 56-38.

In the first quarter of Tuesday’s clash, Uganda had a four-point lead as it ended 14-10, but a determined Malawi came back stronger in the second quarter, scoring 12 points, which was not good enough as Uganda once again outscored them with 14 points for a 28-22 score line.

In the third quarter Malawi only managed to score 10 points compared to their opponents’ 15 to end the quarter with a 43-32 score line.

The final quarter saw Uganda once again scoring the highest points of the match (16), while Malawi, who could not contain the pace of their opponents, scored 11 points for a final score of 59-43.

In the second match of the day, Zimbabwe redeemed themselves with an impressive performance against Kenya, who only played their first match of the competition on the day.

Zimbabwe, who are ranked 12th, defeated Kenya, ranked 39th in the world, with a 56-46 score line.

The first quarter ended 15-15, while the second quarter saw Zimbabwe leading with a single point for a 25-24 score.

The third quarter saw the Kenyans take the lead of two points as it ended 38-36, but the Zimbabwean ladies had other plans for their opponents who they dominated in the final quarter of the match to win with a 10 point difference and a score line of 56-46.

The tournament is sanctioned by the International Netball Federation and will count as a ranking event for participating countries.
