The Kavango East Regional Council leadership plans to sponsor Namibian athĺetes Christine Mboma and Beatrice Masilingi with N.dollars 10 000 each to prepare for the upcoming Tokyo Olympics slated for this month.
This follows their prestigious performance at competitions in Spain and Poland during the month.
The two hail from the Kavango East Region.
A technical committee chaired by Kavango East Education Director Fanuel Kapapero was set up to further explore more assistance for the two athletes.
Kapapero in an interview with Nampa on Monday said the N.dollars 20 000 for the pair is already secured and will be handed over once the ladies return before stating that the aim of the technical committee is to help raise more funds for Mboma and Masilingi for their outstanding
The leadership he said also promised to give the ladies a heroic welcome on behalf of all the residents of the region upon their return to Namibia in line with observing the COVID-19 regulations.
Mboma won a gold medal in the 200-meter final A at the World Athletics Continental Tour in Spain this month.
The pair also competed in the 200-meter event in the Czech Republic.
Masilingi came in third to clinch a bronze medal.
