Man burns to death in shack at Walvis Bay

A 63-year-old man allegedly burned to death after his shack caught fire in the early hours of Sunday at Walvis Bay’s Kuisebmond residential area.

A Namibian Police Force (NamPol) weekend crime report availed to Nampa on Monday said the deceased was identified as Namhindo Victor and the incident occurred around 02h10.

“It is alleged that a passerby heard someone screaming from the shack and alerted other tenants, but it was too late to put out the fire. It is further alleged that six shacks burned down in the process,” it added.

In a separate incident, a 34-year-old man identified as Silvenus Cloete allegedly committed suicide in Windhoek’s Katutura residential area on Friday. He was found hanging from a fence.

Furthermore, a 26-year-old Angolan national died on Friday in the Oshakati State Hospital where he was receiving treatment for wounds he sustained to his head on 19 July 2021 after he was allegedly assaulted by three male suspects.

The deceased was identified as Festus Ndiwakalunga.

“It is alleged that the deceased was found walking in the location with his girlfriend when he was allegedly assaulted. A 24-year-old suspect has been arrested in connection with the crime, while his two accomplices are still at large,” said the report.

Meanwhile, a 43-year-old man died on the spot after the driver of the vehicle he was travelling in lost control, causing it to overturn on the Tsumeb- Grootfontein road Saturday morning.

The report said the deceased was identified as Martin Haindongo. The driver and another passenger sustained minor injuries. The incident happened about 15 kilometres outside Tsumeb.

All deceased persons’ next of kin are informed of their deaths.

Police at Outapi are investigating a murder case after a two-month-old baby was found dumped in a pond by an unknown person.

The report said the baby girl’s lifeless body was found by children who were looking after goats at Ohamwaala village on Saturday around 14h00.

Police investigations in all matters continue.
