Man killed in hit and run, driver attacked by mob

A 21-year-old Namibian man died on the spot early Monday after he was hit by a vehicle on the B1 road between Ondangwa and Onethindi in the Oshikoto Region.

This is contained in the Namibian Police weekend crime report issued by Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi, who stated that the deceased was identified as Lubinda Muchila.

It is alleged that the victim, a pedestrian, died on the spot after he was hit by a Nissan pick-up around 01h40 and the driver fled the scene and was attacked by a mob.

The deceased’s next of kin are informed, said Shikwambi.

In a similar incident, on the Ongwediva and Ondangwa main road, at about 20h00 on Sunday, it is alleged that two vehicles collided head-on, killing a passenger who has been identified as 31-year-old Johannes Paulus. It is further alleged that one of the drivers fled the scene.

The deceased’s next of kin were informed.

The report further said on Saturday around 11h45 in front of Quantum Inn at Rehoboth, it is alleged that 28-year-old Simeon Booysen died in an ambulance on his way to Windhoek after he was stabbed in the throat. The suspect and the victim allegedly had an argument which led to the stabbing. The deceased’s next of kin were informed.

Elsewhere, on Saturday around 18h00 at Gwaashiya Cucashop at Uuvudhiya, it is alleged that a 31-year-old man stabbed Mateus Kashenye several times in the chest with an Okapi knife. Kashenye died.

Shikwambi said the motive of the stabbing is unknown and the deceased’s next of kin were informed. The suspect was arrested and admitted to the Oshakati Intermediate Hospital since he was allegedly assaulted by a mob, read the report.

It further stated that on Saturday around 17h00 at the Rehoboth horse riding stalls, 45-year-old jockey Victus Bohitile died when he fell off the horse he was riding. He was declared dead upon arriving at the hospital with an ambulance. His next of kin were informed.

Police investigations in all matters continue.
