Namibia through the Ministry of Industrialisation, Trade and SME Development is seeking investment opportunities at the Dubai Expo 2020, underway in the United Arab Emirates.

This was according to minister Lucia Iipumbu in her speech on Thursday during the official opening of the Namibia Pavilion at the world expo, taking place under the theme ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future.’

Namibia is amongst the 192 countries participating in the world expo, which was scheduled for October 2020 to April 2021 and was moved to 01 October 2021 to 31 March 2022, due to COVID-19.

Iipumbu said Cabinet took a decision for Namibia to participate in the expo because of its potential to attract investment opportunities that will secure long-term benefits and trigger attraction of tourists and economic diversification.

Namibia, she said, aims to promote its natural resources which will attract sustainable investments and mutual benefits across the globe, adding that the expo is a global marketing initiative for governments, their people, international organisation and the world to celebrate human ingenuity.

Iipumbu further indicated that the pavilion is promoting Namibia through selected sectors including renewable energy; mining; tourism; education; manufacturing; health; the blue economy; logistics and agriculture.

“Our participation is earmarked to be one of the marketing strategies that Namibia through its mandated institutions such as the Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board and the Ministry of Mines and Energy have embarked upon to promote targeted and well-packaged trade and investment opportunities,” she said.

The event with its sub-themes opportunity, mobility and sustainability, is expected to unlock innovation and attract investments, artists, entrepreneurs and scholars, amongst others.
