Katima mulilo: The National Democratic Party (NDP) is urging residents of the Zambezi Region to participate in large numbers in the upcoming Regional Councils and Local Authorities elections scheduled for 26 November.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Rasboom Mweemba, the party’s spokesperson and second candidate for the Katima Mulilo Town Council, emphasized the importance of voting for the NDP during the manifesto launch. Mweemba stated, “Make sure you put your vote in the right basket and the right basket is the only train which is moving right now – the National Democratic Party.”
The NDP has expressed its intention to contest positions for the Bukalo Village Council and the Katima Mulilo Town Council. Additionally, the party aims to participate in seven out of the eight regional constituencies in the Zambezi Region, with the exception of the Judea Lyabboloma Constituency.
The party’s manifesto, although concise, highlights key issues impacting local and constituency levels. It proposes measures such as writing off accumulated rates and taxes for residents, equitable land distribution, and servicing of land prior to plot allocation. Furthermore, the manifesto includes plans to address maladministration and corruption within local authorities, particularly targeting the Katima Mulilo Town Council, with a proposal to transfer control of the open market to an independent board.
The candidacy list for the Katima Mulilo Town Council is led by Simasiku Mukendwa, followed by Rasboom Mweemba, Lilian Nalishuwa, Mutame Mamili, Mwiya Sichimwa, and Lumba Simasiku. For the Bukalo Village Council, the NDP has nominated Zacharia Kabende, Frank Janki, Christina Masilingi, Minsozi Kawana, Kabuba Likando, and Owens Likando.
At the constituency level, Princelow Musweu will represent the party for Katima Urban, while Jimmy Pumulo will stand for the Katima Rural Constituency. Michael Zambwe is contesting in the Kabbe South Constituency, with Alen Mwilima Mwilima in Kabbe North. Lucious Sihina is fielded in Linyanti, Dericky Tembwe in Kongola, and Vincent Kalikan’wi in the Sibbinda constituency.
The Zambezi Region, home to over 142,000 individuals according to the 2023 National Housing and Population Census, has more than 54,000 registered voters across its eight constituencies.
