Nedbank Namibia has officially launched its annual Kapana Cook-Off competition to promote entrepreneurship throughout Namibia.

The 2022 Nedbank Kapana Cook-Off competition, now in its eighth year, will start on 28 May with a coastal round in Swakopmund.

On 11 June, a central round will be held in Windhoek before the tour moves to Ongwediva on 25 June for the Northern round.

Nedbank’s Communications and Public Relations Manager, Selma Kaulinge, told Nampa on Tuesday the competition has enabled winners to become business owners in their own right over the years.

“Winners have the opportunity to become entrepreneurs and employers. Former competition winners have gone on to start their own businesses with their food trucks, and have even hired Namibians to work from their mobile food trucks,” she stated.

The finals of the competition will take place at the Ongwediva Annual Trade Fair on 27 August 2022. The winner will receive a mobile trailer kapana kitchen.

Kaulinge also said the winner will receive a Nedbank account worth N.dollar 10 000 and a Bakpro voucher worth N.dollars 5 000.

“The Nedbank Kapana Cook-Off is simply one of the vehicles that Nedbank Namibia uses to reach out to the market’s small players, who are already running small businesses and aspire to expand and formalise their operations,” she explained.

According to Kaulinge, Nedbank Namibia has invested over N.dollars 3 million to date in hosting this flagship national competition that supports small businesses and celebrates Namibian cuisine.

The Namibian Sun was crowned the 2022 Media Kapana Kings at the Nedbank Kapana Cook-Off competition, which is usually held just before the national competition, while the Namibia Press Agency won the Best Dressed/Team Spirit prize.

The competition is co-hosted by Bakpro and the Namibia Chefs Association, with Agra joining as a sponsor this year.
