The Namibia Fish Consumption Promotion Trust (NFCPT) on Monday donated medical equipment worth N.dollars 3 million to the Ministry of Health and Social Services.

The donated equipment amongst others included Intensive Care Unit (ICU) ventilators, ICU monitors, cardiotocography machines, oxygen flow machines and ultrasound machines.

Speaking during the handover, the chairperson of the NFCPT Board of Trustees, Suzan Ndjaleka, said the donation is aimed at strengthening health infrastructure not only during the COVID-19 pandemic, but once it ends as well.

“While the third wave that devastated the country between June and July has ceased, it is our belief that the donated supplies are critical to respond to COVID-19 as well as expand Namibia’s capacity and enhance its preparedness to address health emergencies,” she said.

On his part Health Minister Dr Kalumbi Shangula, who received the donation, said the equipment will play a key role in improving the delivery of life-saving and health-restoring service in State facilities across the country.

“Contributions by the private sector, State-owned enterprises and other entities have already gone a long way toward helping to improve the delivery of public health care services. In areas where needs have been identified, these investments have served to close the gaps and ensure that the required services are available. This donation will go a long way in helping us meet our objectives,” Shangula said.

The minister urged Namibians to consider the pandemic a destructive force and to do their part by getting vaccinated.
