Nkurenkuru: The Ngato Institute of Science and Technology (NIST) officially opened its fourth campus in Nkurenkuru, aiming to enhance access to practical vocational training for young people in the region.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the event featured remarks from Dr. Henock Kleopas of Nkurenkuru Private Hospital, representing Kavango West Governor Verna Sinimbo. He emphasized the institute’s commitment to providing hands-on education that addresses current employment challenges. Kleopas stated that the initiative is a response to the need for training that prepares youth for employment and entrepreneurship, highlighting the importance of skills that drive innovation and business development.
Founded in 2012 by Fernando Ngato, NIST has expanded from a single vocational training center to four campuses located in Kehemu, Ndama, Divundu, and now Nkurenkuru. The institution offers courses in various fields, including office administration, welding, counseling, clothing production, and agriculture.
NIST board member Elina Diparo addressed the new trainees, underscoring the significance of dedication to achieving success. Diparo encouraged trainees to exhibit commitment, discipline, and determination as they embark on their educational journey.
NIST founder Fernando Ngato acknowledged the challenges faced during the expansion process. He pointed out issues such as acquiring adequate land for development and a lack of involvement from some leaders, which have sometimes hindered the institution’s ability to fully serve its communities. Nonetheless, Ngato expressed that the Nkurenkuru campus reflects a growing demand for vocational education that meets local employment needs and promotes entrepreneurship among regional youth.
