The National Youth Council (NYC) on Wednesday extended condolences to the Kazenambo family on the passing of veteran politician Kazenambo Kazenambo.

Kazenambo died on 17 August 2021 from COVID-19 related complications.

He was 58.

NYC Executive Chairperson, Sharonice Busch in a media statement said the youth are mourning the loss of a fearless leader who spoke with passion and without bias.

“The passing of Kazenambo has robbed not only his family but the entire nation. May his soul rest in peace. On behalf of the Namibian youth fraternity, I would like to convey my sincere condolences to the children and entire family of the Honourable KK,” Busch said.

NYC Director Calista Schwartz-Gowases was also quoted in the statement as saying she considers the former minister a friend of Namibian young people.

“Honourable Kazenambo was a personal friend and a true friend of the youth who would not hold back his honest opinion on any issue brought to his attention. He will be dearly missed,” Schwartz-Gowases said.

Kazenambo was elected to the fourth National Assembly of Namibia in 2005. He then served as deputy minister of Local and Regional Government, Housing and Rural Development until 2010, and as Minister of Youth, National Service, Sport and Culture until 2012. NYC worked with the late minister at different levels of engagement during his term as the Youth Minister, the statement further read.

He was also a member of Swapo’s politburo and previously worked as a journalist for both the Namibia Press Agency and the Voice of Namibia radio programme. Kazenambo became an advisor to then Prime Minister Geingob in 1996.

The NYC said it has opened a condolence register at its office in Pasteur Street, Windhoek West, and invited the youth to share their messages of condolences in the register.
