More than 175 farmers in the Omaheke and Otjozondjupa regions participated in Agribank practical sessions and lectures from 06 to 10 September 2021, with most of the participants being women.

Agri-Advisory Services Division Technical Officer, Erastus Ngaruka said as farmers prepare for the upcoming rainy season, Agribank conducted lectures and practical training sessions in the two regions targeted at farmers of all kinds.

Ngarukua told Nampa on Monday the training was conducted in Talismanus, Helena, Lister and Eiseb 10 in the Omaheke Region and Gam, Omataka and Tsumkwe in the Otjozondjupa Region.

According to a statement issued on Monday, Agribank’s Technical Advisor for Crops and Poultry Hanks Saisai stated that the lectures and practical training sessions have been targeting remote areas in order for them to have access to critical information such as livestock nutritional needs, animal health, farm management planning and record-keeping, chicken production, vegetable production and dryland crop production preparations.

He further mentioned that these events were held to prepare farmers to be ready for the upcoming rainy season and informed on how to improve productivity and contribute towards sustainable food security and wealth creation among the communities throughout the country.

Saisai noted that some topics such as poultry, horticulture and cultivated pasture are more in demand, as participants requested for follow-ups of intense training in such areas.

Agribank through its Agri Advisory Services Division conducts the lectures and practical sessions with the objective of educating farmers on various components of farming, as well as advising on possible solutions to challenges being faced by farmers.

“The sessions also serve as information sharing opportunities for farmers,” the statement said, adding that the bank recently resumed with its lectures and practical training sessions, following the easing of COVID-19 regulations on public gatherings.

The bank will also host women and youth in agriculture training sessions on Wednesday in the Otjozondjupa Region in Otjituuo, Okamatapati, Ovitatu-Omboora and Okaari in the Okakarara constituency.
