The Swapo Party’s Otjozondjupa Regional Executive Committee on Monday suspended its chairperson and regional coordinator, Susan Hikopua indefinitely.

According to the party’s regional treasurer, Patrick Xoagub at a media briefing here Monday, Hikopua has been placed on suspension indefinitely pending investigations into the allegations levelled against her.

The decision to suspend Hikopua followed a meeting held at the party regional office on the same day by members of the district executive committee from six districts out of seven in the region.

The district committee members were from Tsumkwe, Grootfontein, Otavi, Otjiwarongo, Okakarara and Okahandja.

The seventh district of Omatako, where Hikopua is originally from, decided to abstain from the meeting, said Xoagub.

The regional executive committee has accused Hikopua of abusing her Swapo party office powers, insubordination towards the regional executive committee and abusing party finances and property for her personal use.

“You are therefore suspended because you spearheaded and masterminded the activities that led to the local authority councillors in Grootfontein and Otjiwarongo not being sworn in at their local authority annual internal elections last week,” said the statement.

Hikopua also faces accusations of having engaged in activities that undermined the interests of the party and promoted the interests of opposition political parties.

Her alleged continuous sowing of division in the party is another reason that led to her suspension.

Swapo Party’s Otjozondjupa Regional Secretary for Information and Publicity, Clive Kavendjii will be the acting regional coordinator of the party until further notice.

Hikopua in a telephone interview with Nampa on Monday afternoon said she was not aware of her suspension since she was in Ovitoto.
