A 76-year-old woman, identified as Christine Witts, reportedly died on the spot after the vehicle she was driving overturned on the B2 national road between Okahandja and Karibib on Tuesday.

A Namibian Police Force (NamPol) report availed to Nampa on Tuesday stated that the deceased was the only occupant in the vehicle.

“About 10 kilometres before Karibib, she lost control over the vehicle. The vehicle overturned and the driver passed away at the scene. The deceased was identified by documents she was carrying and her next of kin were informed of her death,” the report stated.

The body was taken to Karibib State Clinic mortuary for death certification and further handling.

In an unrelated incident, a 34-year-old Chinese national’s house was reportedly broken into and items including two laptops, two cellphones, two bank cards and one cash safety box were stolen at Karibib on Monday.

An amount of N.dollars 87 900 was later withdrawn from the complainants’ account at Karibib.

According to the report, it is alleged that the security guard guarding the man’s house was approached by a woman while he was guarding the house.

“She allegedly informed the security guard that she is employed at the Namibian Defence Force base in Usakos and wanted to be directed to the shops in Karibib. He then escorted her about 1.5 kilometres and upon his return, found the house broken into by unknown suspects. The NamPol members who visited the scene received information about the vehicle used in the commission of the crime and shared the information with neighbouring towns,” the report said.

The vehicle was traced by the Okahandja Police and stopped about 30 kilometres from Okahandja on the Okahandja-Otjiwarongo road. Three male suspects and one female suspect were arrested.

All stolen items were recovered.

Police investigations into both matters continue.
