Swakop Uranium Launches 2024 Sustainability Report in Windhoek

Windhoek: Swakop Uranium on Tuesday launched its 2024 Sustainability Report, reaffirming its commitment to responsible mining, transparency, and sustainable development within Namibia’s mining sector. The launch event was attended by government officials, industry partners, and shareholders.



According to Namibia Press Agency, Deputy Minister of Industries, Mines and Energy, Gaudentia Kr¶nhe, highlighted the responsibility of the current generation to transform Namibia’s mineral wealth into opportunities for long-term growth. Kr¶nhe stated that Namibia’s minerals must be not only extracted but also leveraged for sustainable development. She emphasized the importance of positioning the mining sector as a driver of inclusive economic transformation, in line with President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah’s reforms aimed at empowering local businesses and expanding employment.



Kr¶nhe praised Swakop Uranium for aligning its operations with national goals of sustainability and innovation, noting that responsible mining is now a standard practice rather than an aspiration.



Swakop Uranium CEO Luo Wei, in his welcoming remarks, mentioned that this is the sixth consecutive year the company has released an independent sustainability report. He explained that the theme for this year, ‘Mining for a Sustainable Future,’ underscores the company’s belief in creating value for the environment, people, and the economy through responsible mining.



The company reported record performance in production and safety for 2024, along with strengthened environmental management systems and community engagement efforts. CEO Luo Wei expressed the company’s ongoing commitment to being a catalyst for Namibia’s sustainable growth and the global transition to clean energy.
