Swapo’s suspended Otjozondjupa Region coordinator, Susan Hikopua, was on Wednesday still working from her party office in Otjiwarongo.
Hikopua in an interview with Nampa said since her alleged suspension on Monday by the regional executive committee members, nothing was communicated to her officially.
“Therefore, for me all is still in order and all office administrative matters will continue as normal until a suspension letter is given to me,” said Hikopua.
Swapo’s Otjozondjupa regional treasurer, Patrick Xoagub in a telephonic interview with Nampa on Wednesday maintained that Hikopua is suspended.
He said Hikopua was placed on indefinite suspension pending investigations into the allegations levelled against her.
“The decision to suspend her followed a meeting which was held at the party’s regional office in Otjiwarongo on Monday. On the same day, we as members of the regional executive committee from six districts out of seven, resolved to suspend her in her absence,” said Xoagub.
The district committee members which attended the meeting on Monday were from Tsumkwe, Grootfontein, Otavi, Otjiwarongo, Okakarara and Okahandja.
The seventh district of Omatako, where Hikopua hails from, decided to abstain from the meeting, said Xoagub.
The regional executive committee accused Hikopua of abusing her Swapo Party office powers, insubordination towards the regional executive committee and the abuse of party finances and properties.
Hikopua allegedly also spearheaded the activities that led to the local authority councillors in Grootfontein and Otjiwarongo not being sworn in at their local authority annual internal elections last week, read a statement issued by the committee.
According to the statement, Hikopua also faces accusations of engaging in activities that undermined the interests of the party and of promoting the interests of opposition political parties.
Her alleged continuous sowing of division in the party is another reason that led to her suspension.
Swapo’s Otjozondjupa secretary for information and publicity, Clive Kavendjii will act as regional coordinator while Hikopua is on suspension, said Xoagub.
