Lashkar gah: Three people, including a woman, were killed and five others were injured, including four children and one woman, when a truck overturned in southern Afghanistan’s Helmand province, local authorities reported late Saturday. The tragic incident unfolded as the vehicle was transporting a family during their relocation.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the truck overturned due to reckless driving on the outskirts of Police District 10 in Lashkar Gah city, the provincial capital. The provincial department of information and culture released a statement confirming the details of the accident.
In another related incident earlier in the week, three people lost their lives and 18 others were injured in a crash involving a tractor and two passenger vehicles in the eastern Laghman province. This pattern of accidents highlights a broader issue within the country.
Road accidents are a major concern in Afghanistan, claiming thousands of lives annually. Contributing factors include reckless driving, poor road conditions, overspeeding, overloading, congested highways, and insufficient traffic signage.
