The University of Namibia (UNAM) recently received a grant of N.dollars 600,000 from the Vaccines for Hope consortium of insurance firms, which is managed by the Namibia Saving and Investment Association (NaSIA).

The financial assistance will enable the UNAM Cares Vaccination campaign to continue with its health promotion roadshows, social mobilisation, and rollout of the Covid-19 vaccines in nearby towns and remote areas.

Namibia’s Vice President and Chancellor of UNAM, Nangolo Mbumba in a media statement on Tuesday praised Vaccines for Hope’s participation, saying UNAM Cares will use the N.dollars 600,000 to carry out the Covid-19 vaccination programs and assist the creation of Covid-19 clinics at nine of the country’s 12 campuses.

Jason Hailonga, NaSIA’s Chief Executive Officer, emphasised the consortium’s commitment to the fight against Covid-19.

“By providing this monetary donation, we seek to improve the quality of life of vulnerable and stranded population groups while also contributing in the expansion of public health education on the importance and benefits of the Covid-19 vaccination and getting members of the public vaccinated,” he stated.

UNAM Vice Chancellor Kenneth Matengu on his part emphasized that UNAM Cares was founded on the belief that service is an important mission of a university.

“We are really grateful for this grant and we assure you that this grant will enable us to contribute impactfully to the lives and livelihood of the vulnerable populations. We can assure you that this funding will be spent in the best interest of the vulnerable citizens to get vaccinated,” he concluded.
