Windhoek: The police in the Khomas region have opened a rape and murder case after the lifeless body of an unidentified young woman was discovered on Friday morning near the Katutura Youth Complex and People’s Primary School.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) reported in their weekend crime report on Sunday that the deceased was found around 10h00, naked along a fence, with torn trousers, underwear, and a condom wrap nearby. No visible injuries were observed, and a postmortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
In a separate incident on the same day, a 14-year-old girl was reportedly raped by an 18-year-old friend in the Goreangab informal settlement. The report states that the incident allegedly occurred around 22h00 when the victim and her friends, including the suspect, went to a nearby bar. It is alleged that the victim entered a room to lie down, followed by the suspect, and was locked inside by the room’s owner, where the victim was raped. No arrest has yet been made.
Meanwhile, the police are investigating a case of concealment of birth after a baby, still attached to the placenta, was found wrapped in plastic in a riverbed by children playing in Dissiples Street, Marula, on Friday around 16h00. No suspect has been identified at this stage.
The report further indicated that 46-year-old Moses Albert Katiti succumbed to his injuries at the scene after an alleged fight with a 25-year-old male suspect at the Babylon informal settlement on Saturday evening. The incident happened between 18h00 and 20h00, and the deceased’s body was transported to the mortuary.
In Dorado Park, a pedestrian was reportedly killed in a hit-and-run incident at the intersection of Hendrik Witbooi and Hercules Street by a silver VW Amarok at around 02h00 on Saturday. The unidentified pedestrian was crossing the road at the time of the incident. The driver fled the scene, and the deceased’s identity and next of kin are yet to be confirmed. Police investigations in all matters continue.
