55 kg of Heroin and Over 5 Million Stimulant Tablets Seized in Mandalay

Mandalay: Myanmar authorities have seized 55 kg of heroin and 5.8 million stimulant tablets in the Mandalay region of central Myanmar, the state-owned daily The Mirror reported.

According to Namibia Press Agency, acting on a tip-off, anti-narcotics police searched a vehicle in Mandalay's Patheingyi township on Nov. 6 and confiscated the drugs along with one suspect. Following the investigation, three additional suspects were arrested between Nov. 7 and 16 in three separate townships across Mandalay. One more suspect, who arranged the transportation of the drugs, remains at large.

The seized drugs had a street value of over 8.9 billion kyats (about 4.23 million U.S. dollars). The suspects have been charged under the country's law, and further investigation is ongoing.
