the General Directorate of Veterinary Services (DGSV) with the help of the municipal police put an end to the activities of a seller of veterinary pharmaceutical products in the city of Ouagadougou, for illegality, this Wednesday, August 21, 2024.The offender was apprehended and 108 sachets of medicine worth approximately 300 thousand FCFA were seized according to the Ministry in charge of Animal Resources.The products were imported from a neighboring country and sold online in Burkina Faso.Following investigations carried out by the municipal police of the city of Ouagadougou, specifies the source.The accused explained that he began practicing this activity from April 2024 and that he was only on his second order, while claiming to be unaware of the existence of a law prohibiting the sale of veterinary pharmaceutical products by unauthorized persons.According to Dr Rimibtiri Segda, head of the medicines and veterinary profession department, the alleged perpetrator is accused of importing, possessi ng, advertising and selling counterfeit veterinary medicines.'These are unapproved drugs whose active ingredients we do not know. The use of these drugs could affect animal and human health,' he emphasizes.The veterinarian recalled that according to the animal health and veterinary public health code, only pharmacists with pharmacies, veterinary doctors or groups of veterinarians are authorized to hold and sell veterinary products. He added that advertising of these drugs is strictly prohibited.Violators of the law on the sale of veterinary medicines incur financial penalties and/or imprisonment in accordance with the texts in force.Source: Burkina Information Agency
