Swakopmund: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and 5G technology are set to transform Namibia's mining, energy, finance, and healthcare sectors, Huawei Technologies Namibia board director Jason Xu said on Thursday. Xu was speaking at the Official Opening of the Effective Communicators Conference (ECC26) in Swakopmund, where Huawei is the main sponsor, positioning the company as a strategic partner in Namibia's digital transformation.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Xu highlighted that these advanced technologies are revolutionizing every sector, including government, education, healthcare, finance, mining, and energy, but emphasized that technology alone is insufficient without trusted communication, strong partnerships, and a shared vision for inclusive development. Xu further elaborated on Huawei's long-standing involvement in Namibia and Botswana's information and communication technology development for over two decades, collaborating with local partners to build telecommunications networks and enhance connectivity.
Xu expressed Huawei's dedication not only to technology but also to building local capacity, fostering innovation, and creating enduring value for Namibia. He underscored Huawei's broader vision of bringing digital connectivity to every person, home, and organization, with the company's sponsorship of the conference reflecting a belief that effective communication is crucial for ensuring the opportunities created by artificial intelligence and digital technologies are widely understood and shared.
Xu also noted that Huawei's commitment to Namibia was recently strengthened by a visit from President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah and a Namibian delegation to Huawei's headquarters in Shenzhen, China, on July 7, 2026. Xu described the visit as a historic event that solidified a shared commitment to Namibia's future.
In his closing remarks, Xu extended Huawei's gratitude to the Namibia Press Agency (Nampa) and the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (MICT) for organizing the conference, which gathers leaders from various sectors including government, media, academia, and industry. The conference is taking place at The Dome in Swakopmund and runs until Friday under the theme 'Communication Reconsidered: A Driving Force for Constant Progress.'
