Tizi-Ouzou:Algeria defeated Zambia 3-1 on Friday in the opening round of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers at Hocine Ait Ahmed Stadium.

According to Namibia Press Agency , Algeria took an early lead thanks to Jaouen Hadjam's goal in the second minute. Zambia's Fashion Sakala managed to equalize in the 57th minute.

Ibrahim Maza restored Algeria's advantage in the 67th minute, followed by Anis Hadj Moussa's goal seven minutes later, securing the victory for Algeria.

In another Group I match on Friday, Togo secured a 1-0 win over Burundi. These results place Algeria at the top of Group I, leading on goal difference ahead of Togo. Burundi and Zambia have yet to earn any points.

Algeria will next face Burundi on September 29, while Zambia is set to host Togo on September 28 in the second round of qualifiers.
