Aminuis: The fifth edition of the annual Aminuis Winter Cup football and netball competition is scheduled to take place this weekend at the Rietquelle and Apollo Tlabanello sports grounds in the Omaheke Region. The tournament has garnered significant interest, with 27 football teams and five netball teams set to compete following the Friday night draw in Aminuis.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Vemutonda Kasuto, one of the competition's organizers, highlighted the importance of the tournament for local sports. Kasuto explained that the event serves as a platform for local second division teams and premier league clubs to scout emerging talent. Notably, players such as Stima Patire, Verinao Katjijova, Uaama Ngarizemo, and Viera Kazongominja have all showcased their skills in this competition.
Kasuto further emphasized the tournament's role in keeping the youth engaged and providing them with an opportunity to expose their talent. The tournament has allocated N.dollars 27,000 for the football category and N.dollars 8,000 for netball.
The organizer mentioned that teams like Ehungiro Swallows FC from Otjinene Constituency, Aminuis-based Otjeue City, and Light Fire from Gobabis are strong contenders in the football competition. The Rietquelle netball team is also among the favorites in the netball category. The football winner will secure N.dollars 13,000 and 20 gold medals, while the runners-up will receive N.dollars 7,000 and 20 silver medals. Each football semi-finalist is set to earn N.dollars 3,500.
Road Construction claimed last year's netball title, and Light Fire are the defending champions in football. The games are scheduled to commence at 08h00 on Saturday, with the finals slated for Sunday.
