Windhoek: The Minister of Industries, Mines and Energy, Modestus Amutse, has called on state-owned enterprises to demonstrate tangible results and justify their use of government funds. Addressing both commercial and non-commercial entities on Thursday, Amutse emphasized the need for these organizations to contribute to the government's financial resources effectively.According to Namibia Press Agency, Amutse highlighted the necessity for entities to execute their mandates efficiently and prove their value. He noted that many parastatals, particularly those in the commercial sector, are intended to generate income for the government. However, this goal has not been consistently achieved over the years.During an introductory session with state-owned enterprises, Amutse stressed the importance of prioritizing performance and governance. He urged these organizations to move beyond mere maintenance and demonstrate visible results quickly. Financial independence was another key focus, as Amutse encouraged enti ties to become self-reliant and direct funds towards development projects.Amutse also discussed the significance of local capacity in the mining and energy sectors, emphasizing the need for a better understanding of available resources to negotiate effectively. He mentioned upcoming projects in rare earth minerals, marble, and granite, with plans to commence tile production from these materials within the year.To streamline investment processes, the minister announced the establishment of a one-stop investment service platform under the Business and Intellectual Property Authority. This platform aims to consolidate services like licensing and enforce clear processing timelines to minimize delays for investors.In response to media queries, Amutse reiterated the importance of improved performance and tangible outcomes for commercial entities, underscoring the need for swift and visible results.
