The representative of Namibia’s veterans in the two Kavango regions, Hakushinda Kalomho on Friday instructed the youth to approach veterans of the liberation struggle if they want to learn more about Namibian liberation struggle history.

Kalomho made this call while delivering a speech on behalf of the veterans of the liberation struggle at the late Marco Hausiku’s residence in Rundu.

He said there are more things that happened during the liberation struggle era and yet these do not appear in Namibian history.

In his view, the country’s young people are too reluctant about Namibia struggle history, mainly the liberation struggle, adding the youth must approach veterans without fear and learn from them.

“When you see Petrina Haingura here [pointing to the former deputy health minister who was present] entering Swapo office, then you start murmuring behind corners complaining what she wants and questioning her visiting, citing that she has retired, this is unacceptable and must be stopped completely,” Kalomho said.

He said young Namibians must refrain from detesting their retired leaders and instead start learning from them before they die.

He stated that retired veterans still have much to offer and in many cases they possess knowledge of events that happened and does not appear in Namibia history.

He said Hausiku was a veteran of the liberation struggle who fought and together with veteran politicians like Jeremia Nambinga helped PLAN combatants during the liberation struggle.

Hakushinda said Hausiku and Nambinga provided PLAN fighters with much needed classified information risking their lives and this is history one should write for future education.

“Hausiku and Nambinga used to foot from Odimbo into Angola at Oihole to hand over intelligence information. Once upon a time they helped David Malambo to return back into Angola after he escaped from the jail using an ambulance. Malambo is currently a retired Namibian Defence Force soldier who is now in Zambezi Region,” he said.

Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs Frans Kapofi, Deputy Minister of Mines and Energy Kornelia Shilunga, Mbunza Hompa Alfons Kaundu, Christine Haindaka and retired politician Haingura among others attended the memorial service to bid farewell to Hausiku.
