The councillor of the John Pandeni Constituency in Katutura, John Moonde, has called on good Samaritans to help Arcadia Football Club realise its dream of turning its training ground into a proper football field.

Arcadia FC which is based in Grysblok, Katutura, hosted its raffle and fun day on Saturday as a way of raising funds to develop the piece of land which it uses for training, into a recreation facility.

Speaking at the event Moonde said Finance Minister, Ipumbu Shiimi, in his 2022/23 budget speech highlighted the urgent need to reignite economic growth, create jobs, and invest in creating opportunities and activities for the youth.

“Today’s event is a culmination of activities that started in 2021 with a fun day to raise funds and turn this open space into a proper training and recreation facility,” he said.

He added that Arcadia FC is a community-based club that has a youth-focused agenda and relies on the founders as well as parents to fund its activities.

“It is about time that we invite other partners to come on board and make this training and recreation facility a place of pride for this community,” he stated.

Moonde also said as a leader of his community, he will continue to mobilise and support the community-driven initiative, which benefits young people and the community at large.

“We all know that our youthful population remains the most significant resource which could propel our economy onto a competitive and sustainable growth path. It is therefore important that opportunities are availed to the youth through sports,” said Moonde.

The councillor stated that building facilities such as training grounds and reaction facilities will not only benefit young people, but will also provide community members with a place to meet and interact with one another.

The raffle sale generated N.dollars 15 000. Mathew Haikali a founding member of Arcadia FC, said the raised funds are not enough, therefore, investors and good Samaritans are needed to help realise their dream of building a football field and recreation centre for the youth in Grysblok.
