A 37-year-old man who was allegedly assaulted at Ondema village in the Omusati Region, died in hospital on Monday.

The Namibian Police Force in a statement said the charge against the suspect in the matter will thus be changed from attempted murder to murder.

The police earlier reported that Martin Nabot sustained serious injuries when he was allegedly hit on the head by the 37-year-old suspect on 09 January.

“It was alleged that the suspect beat the deceased after he mistook a container of tombo for water and attempted to use it to wash his hands after eating dinner,” the police said.

Nabot was rushed to the Onandjokwe State Hospital and later transferred to Ongwediva Medipark, where he died.

The suspect was arrested on 11 January.

Nabot’s next of kin have been informed and police investigations continue.
