Katima Mulilo:Chairperson of Athletics Namibia in the Zambezi Region, Selma Mufite, has called on coaches who recently completed training to apply their new skills at their schools and sports clubs.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Mufite highlighted the success of the two-day World Athletics Coaching Education and Certification System (CECS) Level 1 course, which concluded recently. The training, held from Monday to Tuesday, was attended by 20 participants in Katima Mulilo.
Mufite expressed her appreciation for the participants' dedication and emphasized that these newly trained coaches are now equipped with international-standard knowledge. They are expected to use these skills to identify and develop young athletic talent in their respective regions and across Namibia.
The primary goal of this training initiative was to enhance grassroots athletics development nationwide. Although the course was held in the Zambezi Region, it attracted enthusiastic coaches and physical education professionals from other regions, such as Kavango West and Khomas.
The course featured practical and theoretical sessions led by South African coach Charley Strohmenger. His curriculum covered essential technical aspects of various track and field disciplines, including sprinting, hurdles, long and middle-distance running, jumps, and throws.
Mufite credited the course's successful implementation to the leadership of Athletics Namibia secretary general, Madeleine Kotze, who managed logistics, and Mufite herself, who coordinated locally.
Athletics Namibia is responsible for organizing, developing, and promoting athletics throughout the country.
