Kavango West Governor Sirkka Ausiku will on Friday deliver her eighth State of the Region Address (SORA).

In an interview with Nampa on Wednesday, Kavango West Regional Council Senior Public Relations Officer, Salomon Tenga said the governor will address the region under the theme ‘Kavango West Going Green’, to emphasise the agricultural opportunities the region has and how they could be explored.

He said the region has the potential to make use of its agricultural resources, thus the SORA will focus on how the people of the region can come together to make use of the available agricultural resources.

“The SORA was planned before the new COVID-19 regulations were put in place. We have invited the stakeholders we usually invite, but taking into consideration the measures, we will of course follow them by not surpassing 50 invitees,” said Tenga.

He further noted that council has been constantly sensitising members of the community on how serious the virus and will try its best to make sure that the governor’s message reaches all corners of the region.

In last year’s SORA, Ausiku raised a concern about youth unemployment in the region and appealed to the business community to look at how they can help in fighting unemployment and sponsor youth development programmes.

The governor further touched on the establishment of youth enterprises in the eight constituencies, as well as the programmes under the Harambee Prosperity Plan aimed at reducing youth unemployment.

She also touched on the construction of the Nkurenkuru Multi-Purpose Youth Resource Centre, which commenced last year before construction was put on hold due to budgetary constraints.
