Belarus Evaluates Two Locations for New Nuclear Power Plant Construction

Minsk: Two sites are currently under consideration for the construction of a second nuclear power plant in Belarus, specifically an additional unit of the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) in Ostrovets and a new NPP in the Mogilev region. This was disclosed by Alexey Polishchuk, Director of the Second Department of CIS Countries of the Russian Foreign Ministry, during an interview with RIA Novosti released on Sunday.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Polishchuk stated, "Now we are considering the options of constructing in Belarus either an additional, third, power unit of the already operating Belarusian NPP in Ostrovets or a new double-unit NPP in the Mogilev region." The consideration of these sites underscores Belarus's ongoing efforts to expand its nuclear energy capabilities.

Additionally, Polishchuk noted that Belarusian partners have shown interest in furthering cooperation with Russia in the nuclear energy sector, indicating a potential strengthening of bilateral ties between the two countries in the field of nuclear technology and energy production.
