Omuthiya: A five-year-old boy identified as Mariano Samaria Pombili Amakali died after a donkey cart landed on him on Saturday. The tragic incident has left the community in shock and mourning.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the Namibian Police Force's Oshikoto Commander, Commissioner Teopolina Kalompo-Nashikaku, reported that the incident occurred around 12h00 at Iihambo Iinene village in the Omuthiya area. The deceased was found stuck under a donkey cart at a neighbour's house where he had been playing with another five-year-old child.

'It is alleged that the two minors were playing alone under a tree where a donkey cart, loaded with mahangu produce, was parked. The incident reportedly occurred when the boy was under the donkey cart, which then fell and landed on him,' Kalompo-Nashikaku stated.

She further explained that the neighbour's child ran to inform the deceased's household, alerting the domestic worker who immediately rushed to the scene. Upon arrival, they found the boy trapped under the donkey cart.

'After removing the cart, there were no signs of life,' Kalompo-Nashikaku added. The boy's body has since been taken to the Omuthiya police mortuary for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Police investigations are ongoing as they seek to understand how the incident occurred and prevent similar tragedies in the future.
