Boy dies in accident on Omafo-Okalongo road

An 11-year-old boy died after the driver of the vehicle he was traveling in lost control while overtaking at a T-junction, causing the vehicle to overturn on the C45 road between Omafo and Okalongo on Saturday.

According to a weekend crime report by the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) on Sunday, the deceased was identified as Lucas Hifikupunye from Ongenga settlement in the Ohangwena Region.

The report said the driver and seven other people between the ages of 20 and 60 escaped the accident with minor to serious injuries.

“The driver was arrested after taking a breathalyzer test that showed an alcohol concentration of over 0.37mg per 1000 ml, which is the limit,” it said.

In a separate incident, a 51-year-old male, Markus Beukes, died on the spot in Keetmanshoop after the driver of the vehicle he was travelling allegedly lost control of the vehicle when a tire burst on the Keetmanshoop-Koes C17 gravel road.

Other passengers in the vehicle sustained slight injuries, the report read.

In another incident on Friday, 24-year-old Leonard Oroseb died instantly after being bumped by a vehicle while crossing the Namutoni road in the Oshikoto Region.

Police investigations continue.
