Beijing: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian emphasized the potential of BRICS to establish "fair and balanced" global cooperation during a meeting with Ethiopian House of Representatives Speaker Tagesse Chafo in Tehran. This statement comes as both Iran and Ethiopia officially became members of BRICS in January 2024.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Pezeshkian highlighted BRICS as a significant multilateral framework that can enhance interactions and deepen economic and political ties while challenging unilateral approaches in the global arena. He suggested that BRICS could model communication based on mutual respect for national sovereignty and cultural diversity, thereby fostering fair global cooperation.
Pezeshkian expressed Iran's commitment to promoting sustainable peace and security, advocating for a world devoid of war and conflict. He indicated Iran's readiness to enhance relations with Ethiopia across various sectors, including economic, diplomatic, cultural, and security, utilizing existing institutional mechanisms for accelerated bilateral cooperation.
Chafo, representing Ethiopia, conveyed the country's determination to boost economic exchanges and joint investments with Iran. He stressed the importance of leveraging BRICS mechanisms, such as the New Development Bank, to fortify economic and financial cooperation foundations between the two nations.
