China and Switzerland Deepen Cooperation Amid Strategic Dialogue

Bellinzona: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi announced that China and Switzerland have maintained high-level exchanges and deepened mutually beneficial cooperation. Wang made these remarks during the fourth round of China-Switzerland Foreign Ministers' Strategic Dialogue held in Bellinzona, a southern Swiss town.

According to Namibia Press Agency, this year marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Switzerland. Wang emphasized the significance of the bilateral relationship and expressed China's willingness to continue working with Switzerland to enhance dialogue, mutual trust, and cooperation. He reiterated the importance of setting an example of peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation between countries with different national conditions and social systems. Wang also expressed confidence in Switzerland's adherence to the one-China principle, which he sees as essential for maintaining the political foundation of bilateral relations.

Wang highlighted the historical context, recalling the formation of the United Nations 80 years ago with the ideal of avoiding war. He pointed out that humanity now faces choices between peace and war, dialogue and confrontation, and cooperation versus rivalry. Given Switzerland's role as host to many UN agencies, Wang emphasized the shared commitment of both countries to practicing multilateralism. He stressed China's readiness to strengthen strategic communication with Switzerland and to uphold the UN-centered international system, aiming for a fairer global governance system and promoting world peace and development.

Swiss Federal Councillor and Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis expressed Switzerland's appreciation for China's green development strategy and its opening-up policy. He affirmed Switzerland's commitment to the one-China policy and acknowledged China's role amid global shifts in power dynamics. Cassis welcomed the Global Governance Initiative proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping and expressed Switzerland's support for the International Organization for Mediation established by China. He also emphasized the importance of enhancing multilateral cooperation with China to tackle global challenges together.
