Qinghai: China's top legislator, Zhao Leji, has urged legislators to ensure high-quality performance in their legislation, oversight, and deputy-related matters to contribute effectively to the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025). Zhao, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, made these remarks during a visit to Qinghai Province in northwest China.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Zhao visited the cities of Xining and Haidong, where he engaged with legislators, enterprises, and local residents to gather their insights on promoting high-quality legislative work. He stressed the importance of legislative bodies maintaining the overall leadership of the Party and ensuring that the Party's major policies and decisions are fully implemented.
Zhao emphasized the need for legislative bodies in Qinghai to focus on protecting the province's ecological environment using a rule-of-law approach, particularly in the Sanjiangyuan area, known as "China's water tower." This region is crucial as it is home to the headwaters of the Yangtze, Yellow, and Lancang rivers.
He also highlighted the importance of upholding a people-centered approach and practicing whole-process people's democracy. Zhao urged legislators to conduct thorough research and gather extensive opinions and suggestions from various sectors.
Zhao further stressed that legislators should fulfill their duties in accordance with the Constitution and other laws, emphasizing the need to enhance the NPC's oversight work by implementing the revised supervision law. Additionally, he called for the strengthening of self-improvement within people's congresses and the implementation of the central Party leadership's eight-point decision to improve work conduct, fostering a clean and entrepreneurial atmosphere to strengthen legal capacity and duty fulfillment.
