Windhoek: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Saturday congratulated Maldivian Foreign Minister Abdulla Khaleel on the 60th anniversary of the Maldives' independence. In a congratulatory message, Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said that China and the Maldives are friendly neighbors facing each other across the sea.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu successfully paid a state visit to China in January 2024, during which the two heads of state provided new strategic guidance for the bilateral relations, Wang said. China stands ready to work with the Maldives to fully deliver on the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, carry forward the traditional friendship, deepen political mutual trust, expand friendly cooperation, improve the well-being of the two peoples, and jointly build a China-Maldives community with a shared future, Wang stated.
