Beijing: Chinese stocks closed lower on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.14 percent to 3,206.92 points. The Shenzhen Component Index also experienced a decrease, closing 0.12 percent lower at 9,885.65 points.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the combined turnover covered by the two indices stood at 1.06 trillion yuan (about 147.28 billion U.S. dollars), which marked a decline of 209.2 billion yuan compared to the previous trading day. Despite the overall market downturn, shares in sectors related to influenza and traditional Chinese medicine were among the leading gainers. Conversely, stocks associated with retail and community group purchases faced significant losses.
Additionally, the ChiNext Index, which tracks China’s Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.09 percent to close at 2,014.19 points, reflecting the broader market trend of the day.
