Beijing: Chinese stocks closed higher on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.73 percent to 4,029.5 points. The Shenzhen Component Index saw a 1.78 percent rise, closing at 13,476.52 points.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the combined turnover of the Shanghai and Shenzhen indices exceeded 2.04 trillion yuan (about 287.87 billion U.S. dollars), marking an increase from 1.95 trillion yuan on the previous trading day. The rise in the market was primarily driven by gains in shares related to chemicals, ceramics, and nonferrous metals. Conversely, shares in textile machinery and electric power experienced significant losses.

The ChiNext Index, which tracks China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, also saw a substantial increase, gaining 2.55 percent to close at 3,201.75 points on Thursday.
