Chinese Stocks Gain as Shanghai and Shenzhen Indices Close Higher

Beijing: Chinese stocks closed higher on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index increasing by 0.37 percent to 3,516.83 points. The Shenzhen Component Index also saw a rise, closing 1.43 percent higher at 10,873.62 points.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the combined turnover of the Shanghai and Shenzhen indices reached 1.54 trillion yuan (approximately 215.5 billion U.S. dollars), a rise from 1.44 trillion yuan on the previous trading day. Stocks related to aircraft manufacturing and textile machinery led the gains, while those in the ceramics and water and gas supply sectors experienced significant losses.

The ChiNext Index, which tracks China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, also saw an increase of 1.75 percent, closing at 2,269.33 points on Thursday.
