Outgoing Turkish Ambassador to Namibia, Berin Tulun, bade farewell to President Hage Geingob at State House on Tuesday.

While bidding farewell, Tulun expressed a good long-standing relationship between the two countries which dates back to the liberation struggle, when Türkiye supported the Namibia Council in attaining its independence during the United Nations General Assembly in Nations 1975.

“I am happy to conclude my diplomatic career in Namibia as I retire after 42 years and I wish the Namibian people prosperity and unity,” said Tulun.

She noted that the two countries have embarked on various successful bilateral cooperations in the areas of education, health and wildlife protection, amongst others.

In response, Geingob said Türkiye was willing to join Namibia in attaining its independence during the assembly where Namibia was seeking to exercise its right to self-determination.

“Türkiye is Namibia’s long-standing friend… Others did not want to support the UN Namibia Council and we should never forget those who helped us,” said Geingob.
