Walvis bay: The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) on Monday confirmed the arrest of Walvis Bay Rural Constituency Councillor, Florian Donatus, on charges of fraud, theft, and money laundering. Donatus is also the chairperson of the Erongo Regional Council Management Committee.

According to Namibia Press Agency, NamPol's Regional Police Spokesperson, Senior Inspector Judith Shomongula, reported that Donatus was taken into custody Monday morning and is expected to make his first appearance in the Swakopmund Magistrate's Court on Tuesday. The Independent Patriots for Change (IPC), under which Donatus serves as councillor, also issued a statement acknowledging the arrest.

IPC leader in Parliament, Immanuel Nashinge, emphasized the party's commitment to justice, transparency, and the rule of law. Nashinge stated, 'The IPC affirms that every individual is entitled to due process and fair treatment within our legal system. We will be closely monitoring this situation to ensure that honourable Donatus' constitutional rights are fully protected throughout the judicial proceedings. We call upon the relevant authorities to ensure that due process is followed meticulously and without prejudice.'

Donatus is alleged to have misappropriated constituency funds amounting to over N.dollars 100,000, which prompted a police investigation into possible fraud and theft.
