COVID-19: Namibia records 142 new cases

Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr Kalumbi Shangula has announced that Namibia on Sunday recorded 142 new COVID-19 cases.

No deaths were recorded.

In the daily update issued Monday, Shangula said the new cases formed part of 1 617 tested samples and represented an 8.8 per cent positivity ratio, with a gender distribution of 56 males and 86 females between one and 66 years old.

The Khomas Region recorded the highest number of cases at 121, followed by Erongo with 11, ||Kharas two, Omaheke two and Otjozondjupa two cases, while Hardap, Oshana, Omusati and Oshikoto recorded one case each.

Of the confirmed cases, 12 were learners, 11 students, four healthcare workers and two, teachers.

Fourteen of the cases had received one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and 37 cases were fully vaccinated.

Namibia on Sunday had 679 active cases of which 21 were hospitalised and two admitted to intensive care units. The cases in ICU were not vaccinated.

Nine new recoveries were recorded, bringing the total number of recoveries to 125 540.

The minister also reported that by 05 December this year, 377 000 people had received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine of which 87 572 had received the single dose Janssen & Johnson vaccine, while 230 228 people had received two doses. A total of 317 645 people had therefore completed their vaccination.

The total deaths on Sunday stood at 3 574.
